What is FTP?
File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a standard Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet. Like the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which transfers displayable Web pages and related files, and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), which transfers e-mail, FTP is an application protocol that uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols. FTP is commonly used to transfer Web page files from their creator to the computer that acts as their server for everyone on the Internet. It's also commonly used to download programs and other files to your computer from other servers.

As a user, you can use FTP with a commercial program that offers a graphical user interface. Your Web browser can also make FTP requests to download programs however due to security reasons you can not upload a file to our FTP server using a Web browser. Using FTP, you can also update (delete, rename, move, and copy) files at a server.

Do I need special software?
Yes. For security reasons we do not allow users to connect via a Web browser. FTP client software can be easily downloaded from the internet. Select the appropriate FTP Client software to the right.

How do I access the Apache FTP Server?
In order to access the Apache FTP server, you need to have a valid UserName and Password. The UserName and Password can be obtained free of charge by contacting your salesperson, or by contacting our prepress department directly at (403) 291-7459.

To begin, first launch your FTP Client software. The software asks for three pieces of information: an FTP address, a UserName and a password. Apache's FTP address is:

ftp.apacheprint.com

The UserName and password are different for every user. Enter the your unique UserName and password and click on "Connect".

NOTE: the UserName and password are case sensitive! Unless otherwise specified, all the UserNames and passwords we issue are lowercase! Once connected, you should see a folder with your name on it. Double click on this folder. You can now upload to this folder by dragging a file to it.
